Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing two award-winning authors who collaborated on an unusual project while living and working in different parts of the world.
One writes books, the other music. The result of their collaboration is “Venetian Rhapsody,” a romantic novel with a companion soundtrack. As I said in my podcast, how cool is that?
However, I did a very uncool thing during the interview that could have spelled doom for the podcast except for the graciousness of my guests. I’ll tell you about that in a moment.
First, allow me to introduce you to these delightful and wonderfully creative people.
Tonya Penrose is the author of eight books. She lives in the southern United States and was inspired to write her latest novel while listening to a song by David Bazo.
David is a composer and musician who lives in Spain. They met on what was formerly known as Twitter.
In the episode, you’ll hear a lot more, including about the complications of a transcontinental collaboration. They have never met in person.
I had set up a Zoom interview so that the three of us could see and interact with each other. We started off great with all our getting-to-know-you preliminaries. In fact, I had such a good time talking with them that I launched right into the interview without — here comes the uncool part — turning on the recording.
Oops.
When I realized what I’d done, I apologized profusely. And Tonya and David were super about it, happily starting over again and even telling me at the end of the interview that the false start was a good thing because they did better the second time around.
So here’s the full episode, complete with a wee bit of transcontinental misunderstanding that just makes it all the more charming.
Tonya’s novel is an engaging romantic story that keeps the reader engaged; David’s music is beautiful, fun and evocative. Here are links to sites where you can learn more about both:
Tonya’s website and David’s store page. The book and album also are available on Amazon and music streaming platforms.
They aren’t packaged together, though, because of the different rights and regulations for each country, but you can order them at the same time. Hope you enjoy this wonderful project.
David Bazo and I loved doing the show with you, Kate! Thanks so much for inviting us.
